Volunteer
Stajduhar Stables needs volunteers from the age of 13 to adults to assist with the programs. All of our volunteers attend an orientation and receive a volunteer manual to prepare them for their job responsibilities. Here are a few examples of jobs our volunteers do:
Sidewalking and Leading
Two of the jobs that volunteers may do are sidewalking beside a client or leading a horse for a therapy session. Sidewalkers walk beside the riders and assist the client as much or as little is necessary to perform the requested activities of the therapists. Leaders lead the horses during the therapy sessions. Leaders do not have to be horse experts and receive an in depth orientation to their job. In order to be considered as a sidewalker or leader, the volunteer must be physically able to assist the rider or manage the horse.
Groomers and Tackers
Don’t feel comfortable or physically able to be a sidewalker or leader? We also need tackers and groomers. There is an incredible amount of preparatory work that goes on before every therapy session. All the horses have to be groomed, tacked with the appropriate tack and warmed up. The horses that are not being used in therapy love to be groomed too!! If you want to come out to brush the horses, we would love to teach you how to pamper our horses.
Grounds Upkeep & Non Horse Related Activities
We have all sorts of tasks that need to be performed such as trash pick up, lawn care, tack cleaning, and barn clean-up. We welcome groups or individuals to participate. Call us and let us schedule your group for a day of community service – (817)-849-1999.
Office and Clerical Opportunities We also need volunteers to help with office clerical and volunteer coordination. If you have computing skills, organizational skills or writing skills, Stajduhar Stables can put you to work in a variety of jobs. For example, the volunteer coordinator would love to have some assistance. We also need a volunteer who wants to take on the responsibility of writing the volunteer newsletter.
Appropriate Dress
Because you will be volunteering at a barn with horses, you will need to dress appropriate to the weather and wear closed toe shoes. No sandals or clogs please. You will want to bring sun glasses, sun block if needed, and a hat in the summer time. In the winter and fall, you may want to layer clothes.
